Character Information

Name:
St. John Allerdyce/Pyro

History: Pyro was born in Sydney Australia to Donna and Bradley Allerdyce, neither one of his parents were Mutants. Father was a journalist, mother was a chef. Both of which were members of the Friends of Humanity (an anti-mutant group). When he was eight years old, John came home after school to find his house abandoned. All the furniture, all their belongings-- gone. Everything, that is, with the exception of St. John’s belongings. He never found his family again after that, nor did he ever learn why they had left him. He always assumed it was because they didn’t, and had never, wanted him. St. John was put in a series of foster homes, until his ability to manipulate flame emerged in his teens.

Just a few months shy of his fifteenth birthday, John was approached by Professor Xavier and Scott Summers and brought back to the Institute. St. John wasn’t a very social teen, having never truly felt like he belonged at the institute; even though it was with his own ‘kind.’ He always felt as if he was overlooked, and not cared for as he did the majority of his life. Even with these feelings, John stayed at the institute and later became part of Storm’s X-Men team. After a mere six months of suiting up with the X-Men, John deflected to the Brotherhood of Mutants. After they had saved a woman in her thirties (Sarah Watson), John never forgot how she reacted to her saviors. The woman seemed to feel as if she would have rather died than be saved by mutants, calling them monsters and freaks-- abominations. Talk about gratitude.

With the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, he attempted to assassinate Senator Robert Kelly, and first battled the X-Men. Mystique’s Brotherhood later offered the team’s services to the United States government in exchange for protection and an official pardon for its crimes, and was renamed Freedom Force. They captured Magneto, the Avengers on behalf of the federal government.

Some years later, Pyro contracted the Legacy Virus, a fatal disease affecting mainly mutants. He went to great lengths to find a cure (encountering Cecilia Reyes at one point), several times at the expense of others, but was unsuccessful in his search and succumbed to the virus. This was just after saving Senator Robert Kelly from a new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. This act of heroism was also instrumental in changing Senator Kelly's opinion on mutants as a whole, and led to his decision to work toward peaceful co-existence between humans and mutants.

Powers and abilities:

Pyro is a mutant who has the psionic ability to manipulate flame by shaping it as he desires, increasing or decreasing its heat, intensity, and size. He cannot actually create fire himself, however, and consequently wears a specially insulated costume with a built-in flamethrower that can throw a stream of flame a maximum distance of 25 feet (7.6 m). He can psionically manipulate the flame to do whatever he desires, and sometimes induces it to take semi-solid form as an animate flame being (these creations, though capable of movement and of grasping or carrying solid objects, are not alive and do not think or act on their own). The degree of Pyro's concentration necessary to manipulate a flame being is directly proportional to the being's size, power, and flame.

Though he cannot be burned by a flame which he is manipulating, Pyro can be harmed by any fire that he does not mentally control. It is generally accepted that he must be able to see a flame in order to take control of it (hence limiting his mental influence to approximately 100 yards). Any of Pyro's fiery creations will immediately revert to ordinary flame if he turns his interest from it.

"I used to write Gothic romances. I've got more layers than a parfait".

Personality:

Given his upbringing, John has never let anyone in. He keeps his true feelings close, and has a habit of shutting everyone out; even those who would care for him. He is secretive, not one who trusts easily. Has a habit of being a bit sarcastic, and sometimes abrasive, defensive mechanisms of his personality. Underneath it all, he is a romantic and sentimental fool. He tends to judge people straight off the bat, and strongly believes in first impressions-- despite the fact that he does not make much of one himself and is well aware of it. He pretends that he doesn’t care what people think, and constantly says he would rather be alone. Even thought he was part of the Brotherhood (the ‘evil’ mutants), he had very strict morals. He believes that all people are, in fact, equal, but the new evolution of mutants shows that humans are evolving. And the superior species has been prosecuted for what they are, not who they are. John doesn’t think that one can get things by simply being nice, by being diplomatic. You have to demand respect, demand rights. He constantly flip flops between the so-called good guys (X-Men) and the bad-guys (Brotherhood of Mutants). This shows not an inconsistency of character, but rather that his ideals straddle the blurring line between the two. John would fight for what he believed in at any cost, even his own life.

He holds writers in high esteem, as he is an aspiring one; it takes a lot of dedication to pour your soul into a book.

If anyone got close enough to truly get to know John, they might describe him as jaded, misunderstood.

(Hard to describe this ^_^)

Game Info

Canon/Type:
X-Men/Comic book

Canon Point of Entry: John is 23 when he is brought to the hotel, a year or so after joining the Brotherhood. (in 2001. When he died in 2005, he was 27 years old from contracting the virus)

Skills: Even from a young age, John had always had an affinity for the written world. When he was younger, the way he learned how to escape the harsh reality of his world being turned upside down, was to read. He will pretty much read almost anything, but he prefers gothic literature above all else. His favorite books include (in no specific order) Bram Stoker's Dracula, Wuthering Heights, Portrait of Dorian Grey, Anna Karenina, The Unberable Lightness of being, and Notes from the Underground. Along with normal literature, John enjoys to read the classics: Divine Comedy, Illiad, Shakespeare (obviously), etc. He likes to read mythology, especially the ones that aren't so-called 'mainstream'. Norse and Irish Mythology are the current ones he has been pouring over in his spare time. Since his teens, John has been writing his own stories, and of late he has been working on a novel that he started a few years ago. St. John enjoys to cook (tends to use way too much garlic and butter in most of his food, also enjoys making spicy foods). He doesn't like to bake, he was never very good at perfecting sweets. He always tends to burn things (shameless pun).
